Music Festival

Music Festival

Today was the ultimate jam session at school – our very own music festival! After fueling up with dinner, I made my way over and was blown away by the energy and talent on display. Seriously, those performers could rival any workout routine with the way they were busting moves!

Watching the acts was a blast, but the real cherry on top was snapping pics with some of the groups. They were decked out to the nines, and let me tell you, some of them were just too adorable for words. Like, there was this one group of girls whose picture practically screamed "Cutest Crew in Town" – I couldn't help but chuckle at how spot-on it was! Their outfits were on point, their choreo was killer, and let's be real, they were just downright adorable.

Ultraman

Ultraman

Guess what treasure I stumbled upon yesterday alongside some LEGOs? None other than the legendary Ultraman Mask! As a kid, I was utterly obsessed with the TV series, much to the endless teasing of my dear brother. But hey, who can blame me? Ultraman was the epitome of cool back then!

Now, imagine my delight when I found that mask! Without a moment's hesitation, I proudly mounted it on my door. Oh, the mischief I could conjure up with it! Picture this: the water delivery guy knocking, only to be greeted by none other than Ultraman himself (well, sort of)!

Sure, the water guy knows the drill by now—he's been delivering to our place for ages. But hey, a little fun never hurt anyone, right? Besides, it's the little moments of whimsy like this that sprinkle magic into the mundane. Who knows, maybe next time I'll greet the mailman in full superhero regalia! Ah, the joys of reliving childhood fantasies, even if just for a moment.

Engineer's Playground

Engineer's Playground

You wouldn't believe what one of my neighbors threw away—I found a whole bag of LEGO bricks in the trash bin. I couldn't believe my luck! I immediately retrieved the bag and brought it back home before heading to the university canteen for dinner yesterday. Currently, I'm sorting through all the pieces. If I have space in my luggage on my next trip home, I plan to take them to Brazil to add to our family's LEGO collection, which we've been building for many years.

Typically, people play with LEGO for a while, possibly lose some pieces, and eventually discard them when they grow bored. Additionally, if you buy a LEGO set, it's usually for assembling a specific model, and without the assembly instructions, it can be nearly impossible to recreate it. However, in my family's case, we've been building with LEGO for many years—across generations—and our collection is quite extensive. I dare say we have enough pieces to build just about anything. Therefore, I'm excited to incorporate this new set of pieces into our family's LEGO collection, if possible.

Here are my thoughts on LEGO toys:

Unlocking the Engineer's Playground: The Endless Potential of LEGO

In the vast landscape of childhood playthings, few toys evoke the spirit of creativity and engineering quite like LEGO. What began as a simple set of interlocking bricks has evolved into a sophisticated platform that captivates minds of all ages, providing a canvas for innovation and problem-solving. From towering skyscrapers to intricate robots, LEGO has transcended its humble origins to become a cornerstone of engineering education and inspiration.

Building Foundations of Engineering

At its core, LEGO embodies the fundamental principles of engineering: design, construction, and problem-solving. With LEGO bricks, children and adults alike are given the opportunity to conceptualize, plan, and execute their ideas in a tangible and interactive way. Each brick is a building block, paving the way for endless configurations and possibilities.

From a young age, aspiring engineers are drawn to LEGO's intuitive system of assembly. By experimenting with different combinations of bricks, they learn the basics of structural integrity, spatial reasoning, and geometry. Whether constructing a simple house or a complex mechanical contraption, every creation becomes a lesson in physics and mechanics.

Encouraging Creativity and Innovation

One of the most remarkable aspects of LEGO is its ability to foster creativity and innovation. Unlike many toys with predetermined outcomes, LEGO sets encourage open-ended play, allowing individuals to unleash their imagination and explore new ideas. The modular nature of LEGO bricks empowers builders to experiment with various designs and configurations, fostering a culture of innovation and problem-solving.

For budding engineers, LEGO serves as a blank canvas for invention. Whether they're designing a futuristic spaceship or a functional crane, builders are limited only by their imagination. This freedom to create and innovate not only nurtures a passion for engineering but also instills valuable skills such as critical thinking, adaptability, and perseverance.

Bridging Theory and Practice

LEGO's impact extends far beyond the realm of play, serving as a powerful educational tool for aspiring engineers. Recognizing its potential, educators around the world have integrated LEGO into STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) curricula, leveraging its hands-on approach to reinforce key concepts and principles.

Through LEGO Education programs and initiatives, students are able to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world challenges, bridging the gap between theory and practice. Whether exploring robotics, architecture, or renewable energy, LEGO provides a platform for experiential learning, empowering students to become active participants in their education.

Cultivating Collaboration and Teamwork

Engineering is rarely a solitary endeavor, often requiring collaboration and teamwork to tackle complex problems. LEGO reflects this reality by fostering a culture of collaboration and cooperation among builders. Whether working together to construct a sprawling cityscape or competing in a robotics competition, LEGO encourages builders to share ideas, communicate effectively, and work towards a common goal.

By engaging in collaborative projects, builders learn the importance of teamwork and leadership, skills that are essential for success in the field of engineering. Whether building bridges or breaking barriers, LEGO inspires individuals to come together, harnessing the power of collective creativity to achieve extraordinary feats.

Looking Towards the Future

As we look towards the future, the role of LEGO in engineering education and innovation is more important than ever. In an increasingly complex and interconnected world, the ability to think critically, creatively, and collaboratively is essential for addressing the challenges of tomorrow. By harnessing the power of play, LEGO continues to inspire the engineers and innovators of the future, unlocking endless possibilities and shaping the world one brick at a time.

In the hands of engineers, LEGO is more than just a toy – it's a gateway to exploration, discovery, and endless potential. From the workshop to the classroom, LEGO serves as a catalyst for learning, creativity, and innovation, leaving an indelible mark on the minds and hearts of builders around the world. So, the next time you pick up a LEGO brick, remember that you're not just building a toy – you're building the future.

Language Fluency

Language Fluency

Let me tell you about a day in the life of an English teacher who gets invited by students to hang out. Picture this: I'm in China, far from family, feeling a bit lonely sometimes, but that's not what we're focusing on today.

I was reminded of a dear experience I had a few years ago when a good friendship developed at English Corner activities, turn out to be such a win-win outcome for me and the student involved. I suppose we enjoy each others company while learning at the same time. I got to go to places I would not go without a chaperone and she got to share China with me while practicing her English. We remain friends today, but we don’t talk that much anymore, life gets busy and we don’t live in the same city anymore.

I did remember that experience above because today I had a similar beginning of what it could be the same kind experience I had with my friend before. This last week I had made a few new friends at the canteen and they invite me to spend Saturday together going out of the university to eat and visit some places with her and her friends.

I accepted the invitation and we had a nice “Huo Guo” for lunch, we walked at the park and we went to a few places where it we could not get in because it was full of people (no more bookings available) like the KTV for karaoke singing. But we manage to do other fun stuff, like riding the swing on the park.

Now here is the point I want to emphasize, when I met those girls, specially Lou Yike (the one I spend more time talking) she was not so confident to talk, what I mean by that is that she was not very confident in her abilities to express herself, and to be honest she needed to look in her phone to find words she wanted to say, I will not lie to you and say that by end of the day she did not needed to keep searching for words, but I will say, that after a few hours together she forgot about being nervous and we as a group was just enjoying going out, and when that happen her fluency got so much better, by the end of the day it was palpable how much she did improve in just one day of practice. AND THAT IS WHAT I TELL ALL MY STUDENTS ALL THE TIME, AND THEY SEEMS NOT TO BELIEVE IT, BECAUSE THEY DON’T PRACTICE ENOUGH.

As my other friend from few years ago got so much better in speaking English because of the practice, I feel the same could be accomplished with anyone who practices. The cool thing about it is that we are having so much fun together and it did not fell like studying (but it is studying). I am saying this because I know some students would feel guilty for NOT studying, but in the situation of learning a language only studying hard as in reading books and doing grammar exercise may not produce the best results if you do not include the use of the language in real life communication as did have today while having so much fun in doing it.

I am always hoping to make a difference in the lives of my students and friends I made here in China, and today reaffirmed the power of genuine connection and shared experiences. As I reflect on the day spent with Lou Yike and her friends, I'm reminded once again of the transformative potential inherent in human interaction.

Through our shared adventures, laughter, and conversations, I witnessed Lou Yike's confidence grow, her English fluency blossoming with each passing moment. What began as hesitant exchanges soon evolved into fluid communication, demonstrating that immersion and practice truly are the keys to language mastery.

Just as my previous friendship flourished through mutual exploration and learning, today's experience underscores the importance of stepping outside the confines of traditional study methods. Language acquisition isn't solely about memorizing vocabulary or conjugating verbs; it's about engaging with the language in real-world contexts, embracing the spontaneity of conversation, and forging meaningful connections along the way.

So, as I bid farewell to another fulfilling day in China, I carry with me not only cherished memories but also a renewed sense of purpose. Through our shared experiences, I am reminded that teaching isn't just about imparting knowledge—it's about empowering individuals to unlock their full potential and navigate the world with confidence.

As I continue on this journey, I am committed to fostering moments of connection, growth, and discovery, knowing that each interaction holds the promise of transformation—for both my students and myself. Together, we'll navigate the intricacies of language, culture, and friendship, weaving a tapestry of experiences that enrich our lives and transcend borders. And in these moments, I find my greatest fulfillment — knowing that I've made a difference, one conversation at a time.

No No & Yes

No No & Yes

YouTube / YouKu

No”, “No” and a “YES”

Sometimes you don’t get a “Yes” if you don’t keep asking. Besides getting something to eat, the other reason I go the canteen is to make new friends. I am alone in China and if I did not have managed a way to make friends I would be long gone from China, but fortunately I not only figure it out how to make good friends, but also find out that Chinese people are wonderful, once you made the first move and break the ice, they are very very friendly, generous, the invitations start to come in, and pretty son I have to say “no” sometimes simply because I cannot attend everything I was invited to participate. No wonder I am still in China after 6 years. I am not saying I will stay here forever, but when the time comes to renew the contract is always a easy decision – that is because here I have been felling very welcome, but remember, for the most part you have to be the one who take chances first in trying to make a friend.

Tattoos. is it a good idea ?

Tattoos. is it a good idea?

In recent years, tattoos have become increasingly popular as a form of self-expression and art. However, there are compelling reasons to reconsider the decision to permanently ink one's skin. This article aims to make the case against tattoos, exploring various arguments that highlight potential drawbacks and urging individuals to think twice before undergoing this irreversible transformation.

1. Permanent Consequences:

The permanence of tattoos is arguably one of the most significant drawbacks. What may seem like a fantastic idea today might not be as appealing in the future. Our tastes, preferences, and perspectives evolve over time, and a tattoo that once held deep personal meaning may lose its significance. Unlike changing a hairstyle or wardrobe, tattoos are not easily reversible, making them a long-term commitment that many come to regret.

2. Seeking Attention at What Cost?

Tattoos often serve as attention-grabbing statements, but is it worth the potential consequences? While a well-designed tattoo can be a source of pride, extreme or attention-seeking tattoos might lead to unintended consequences. Constantly drawing attention to oneself may result in judgments, stereotypes, or even discomfort in certain social or professional settings. Before making such a bold statement, one should carefully consider the potential implications on personal and professional relationships.

3. Respecting Your Body as a Temple:

The analogy of the body as a temple suggests that we should treat our bodies with the utmost care, avoiding unnecessary alterations. Just as we prioritize a healthy diet, regular exercise, and avoiding harmful substances, some argue that permanently marking the skin contradicts the idea of preserving the body in its natural state. Choosing to view the body as a canvas for art may diminish the importance of maintaining its integrity and health.

4. Unpredictable Reactions:

Tattoos involve introducing foreign substances into the body, and not everyone reacts the same way. Allergic reactions, infections, or other complications can arise, and these risks should not be taken lightly. What begins as an exciting artistic endeavor can quickly turn into a regrettable decision if the body reacts negatively to the tattooing process or the inks used.

5. Professional Implications:

In many professional settings, visible tattoos can be a significant barrier to employment. Certain industries uphold a more conservative image, and tattoos are often perceived as unprofessional or distracting. While societal attitudes towards tattoos have evolved, biases still persist, potentially limiting career opportunities for individuals with visible ink. Choosing to get a tattoo may inadvertently close doors to certain professional paths, hindering one's ability to secure employment in industries that prioritize a more traditional appearance.

6. Aesthetic Appeal and Self-Image:

Opinions on beauty are subjective, but personal preferences play a role in how tattoos are perceived. Some individuals find the natural, unadorned skin more aesthetically pleasing, associating it with a timeless and classic beauty. The decision to forego tattoos can be a personal choice driven by an appreciation for simplicity and a desire to maintain a clean, unaltered appearance. This perspective aligns with the belief that confidence and self-respect are reflected in how one presents themselves, and for some, a lack of tattoos is seen as an expression of this confidence and respect for one's body.

Conclusion:

In addition to the permanence of tattoos, potential professional consequences, and the analogy of the body as a temple, the impact on aesthetic appeal and self-image adds another layer to the case against tattoos. In a world where first impressions matter, visible tattoos can be a hindrance in professional settings, limiting career opportunities. Moreover, the personal belief that a lack of tattoos enhances a person's beauty and reflects confidence underscores the importance of careful consideration before making the irreversible decision to get inked. Ultimately, individuals should weigh the potential consequences and societal perceptions against the desire for self-expression through tattoos.
